Right to Repair Bill

On April 11th, 2024, the Consumer Guarantees (Right to Repair) Amendment Bill, a member's bill created by Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson, was drawn from the ballot and introduced to the House.  The purpose of this Bill is to empower New Zealanders by providing them with access to tools and information to repair their belongings, thereby extending the lifetime of goods, to keep resources in circulation and out of landfills.

The Bill passed its first reading in New Zealand Parliament on February 19th, 2025 and was referred to the Economic Development, Science and Innovation Committee for public submissions. Written submissions closed on April 3, 2025, and oral submissions were heard on April 10th and May 12th. The final report from the Select Committee is due by August 19th, 2025.
